What is "Laudato Si?"

"Laudato Si" is a letter, addressed to everyone, that Pope Francis wrote in 2015. It’s a call to care for our planet as a way to care for each other, which goes to the very core of what it means to be a Catholic.

“We have forgotten that we ourselves are dust of the earth; our very bodies are made up of her elements, we breathe her air and we receive life and refreshment from her waters,” he wrote. “We may well be leaving to coming generations debris, desolation and filth.”

Laudato Si is an urgent call to end the destruction of the earth’s environment, an ambitious outline of the changes that need to occur. But what does that mean for a Catholic living in Pittsburgh today?
