The St. Paul of the Cross Monastery is a ministry of the Passionists on the Southside of Pittsburgh.

We are a community of Passionists, members of a worldwide Congregation of Priests and Brothers in the Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the keeping alive the memory of the Passion of Jesus Christ and ministering to Him in the suffering of people today. Our monastery was founded in 1852, the first house dedicated to our Founder, St. Paul, who died in 1775.

St. Paul of the Cross Monastery in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an energetic and talented professional for its Director of Sacred Music. This prestigious and historic Monastery is on the Southside of Pittsburgh and is owned and staffed by the Passionists.

Position is part-time. Applicants must have excellent communication/organizational skills, strong knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy, and informed understanding of sacred music.

Position responsible for working with the Rector in planning music for three weekend Masses; holy days, special prayer services, and monastery events are expected. Position also responsible for developing and directing adult choir and scheduling cantors. Additional tasks as agreed upon.

Experience preferred working with Church liturgies, choirs and as an accompanist. Music degree preferred; proficiency with keyboard, piano, and organ required. The ideal candidate should possess confident leadership skills and a spirit of cooperation and collaboration.


Individual must possess strong desire to work with Rector and assist in making Mass faithful, reverent, prayerful, and beautiful. Minimum education BA/BM in Music. Salary commensurate with experience. Please attach your resume and email to Joe Farris, Director of Mission, joe@joefarris.org
